I thought Winona was still serving time for shoplifting that bag of chips or something...
Looks good. =)
Excellent review! First one I have read where the reviewer gets this movie is about Nina descending into madness. Not some "supernatural thriller" as I have seen claimed.
This was indeed a great movie. I love Aronofsky’s movies, he's quite a director. Black Swan was one of the few good movies I've seen this year.
Great review, Meaning I agree with it but you says it better than I would. One thing thought I was taken out of the movie a few times. Not sure if it was so dark that I had to pull out mentally or if it needed a little better editing.
Good review. Completely agree for the most part. Loved this movie. This movie reminded me of the old black and white "thrillers" in the study of madness. More of a throwback to me than anything. More of a classical style of film than the other shit out there in recent years. A lot of people call it "Artsy" and shit I talk to which is retarded. I suppose the direction is artsy, but it's not an arthouse film by any stretch. It's just a good mindfuck story that was well done with great actors. I think this movie could have been a tad bit longer with a little more depth to Nina. At least to distinguish a few things. I read somewhere that they cut a part out that I think would have made a distinction for me more clear. SPOILERSThe part where she is dancing in front of the mirror and cracks her toenail. The part removed was that after taping it up she went right back to it and did it until it was perfect with a creepy smile at herself in the mirror. This was cut out./SPOILERSI think adding a scene like that may have helped me decide more if she truly wanted to be perfect, or if she was in love with just the idea of being perfect. To me I kind of see it more as her being less of a perfectionist, and more of a story of her thinking she needs to be a perfectionist. I suppose for the madness part this plays well, BUT I still ponder if adding scenes like I mention above would have added a bit to the film.
I was not too sure about this one, though I loved The Wrestler. Now I really want to see it!
